07/25/11 Excellent Massages!!
by birdiev at Citysearch

As an athlete, I've had to have lots of deep tissue massages and body work. Tye has been my favorite so far. For me, it was so nice that she took the time to talk to me before and after my massage, to first let me know about her style and ask me about my problem areas, as well as tell me what she felt after. She also has given me lots of ideas for stretches and therapies I can do at home to maintain comfortable muscles (I always get shin splints and she gave me some advice for soothing them). She definitely makes the massage about what you need as a patient, which isn't always the case with many
massage therapists. I've been to lots of spa's where I would never have the same therapist, they would have a specific technique they used for everyone, etc. Tye's massages are based on what your body needs. And she's great about applying a comfortable amount of pressure for you, and focussing on your problem areas with lots of patience and deep muscle work. I've found her massages to really loosen up my entire body, more than any other massages I've received in the past.

07/11/11 Massage Expertise

After years of having deep tissue work to ease chronic pain from three
separate injuries, years apart, I finally found comprehensive experience in a massage therapist schooled in the musculature, musculoskeletal, and eastern arts. Tye's extensive medical training as a practicing nurse combined
demonstrate her ability to understand the body, combined with her studies in more holistic arts provide a whole-listic approach to therapy. She is very attune to the body working with clients on pressure, sensitivity, monitoring pain thresholds and reviewing progress and therapies the client can undertake out of the therapy room to make the in-therapy session that much more
productive and fruitful for both.

I would highly recommend Tye for your future massage therapy needs be they purely relaxation or more intense therapeutic.

03/27/11 Sankofamassage is incredible!
by tdelbalso1 at Citysearch

I am a CPA / Treasury Manager. With sitting over the desk / analyzing numbers all day I am always complaining about my back, shoulders, neck... so I
frequently go for massages. My massage with Tye was by far the best I have ever had. From talking on the phone / first meeting her - I instantly sensed her warmth and the fact that she really understands the body and how to truly make you feel completely amazing. I think the fact that she is a nurse puts her in a league all her own. When the massage was over I felt incredible and that feeling of utter relaxation lasted for days whereas I am usually all tense again 24 hours later. Also after the massage Tye sat with me and discussed what she had observed. No one has ever gone into that detail with me before so I was surprised. But then she really amazed me, she told me what I can do on my own to help the muscles in my back from knotting. I have followed her advice and I see the difference. In over ten years of massages no one has ever told me what to do to feel better when I can not make it to them. That is just one example of the person and professional she is. Tye cares for you as more than just a customer - she actually cares and takes the time to heal you. I live in NY and am going back next month with my daughter for another massage.

11/19/10 What a great way to start your day!

I have never met such a caring professional and informative massage therapist before until I met Tye! From the start she asked very important questions
regarding my issues and followed up with a combination of therapies suited for me. As an R.N. I know the true value in COMMUNICATION when talking about care. At the end of our sessions ( I have already been there 3 times!!!) Tye gives a post massage summary--explaining what she found and areas I need to care for. I feel great and look forward to my next session!
Thank you Tye.

Tye is a professional, nurturing, communicative massage therapist. I felt
welcomed and completely at ease in her intimate, comfortable space. We spoke at length about the issues I faced and she followed through with a
combination of therapies detailed to my specific needs. I am looking forward to a long relationship. Thank-you so much!

09/06/10 Not just a Massage Therapist but a Nurse as Well!
by danielleleonard at Citysearch

Had a fantastic experience with Tye just last week. I've had hundreds of
massages at many spas, salons, etc. and therefore consider myself a pretty good judge of who knows what they are doing and who doesn't.

Let me tell you, Tye knows what she's doing! She does many things that most overpriced massage therapists don't bother with. She actually TALKS to you both before and after your massage, she tells you her style, asks what you like, then goes over all the tight spots she found during the massage as well as suggestions that you can try to get rid of any muscle pain you may have. Who does that? Who takes that much of an interest? Not many, that's for sure. She doesn't try to rush you in and out and forget who you are the second you leave.

Now for the even better part, this lady has hands that are stronger and more intuitive than I have ever experienced. She finds the knots, she works the knots and she doesn't miss a spot. Right down to the often neglected feet and toes.

Go see Tye, she's fantastic, her prices are reasonable and she really goes the extra mile.

09/03/10 good massage
by anonymou123456 at Citysearch

i was appreciative of the massage i received. it was firm but as a first-timer, it did not cause me too much pain. I also really liked that due to my allergies Tye used an oil with something mentholated in it when she massaged my chest -- it made breathing so much easier.

overall, i would recommend this place.

08/31/10 Best Massage in years!
by Shaina Rae at Citysearch

I had been meaning to check out Sankofa's massages since the business moved to Salem and finally had my chance during their Promo Event. I try to sneak in a massage a few times a year (as a dancer and motorcyclist, my back and other muscles are often in need of some serious TLC) and am therefore fairly familiar with different styles and techniques. During my first visit to Sankofa, I decided I'm not likely to go anywhere else!
Tye (the owner) is nothing short of fantastic. She spends time with you before you begin to find out your pressure preference, areas you would like her to work on, previous massage history, etc. I'm a huge fan of deep tissue massage and was thrilled to discover this is her area of expertise, but she is also equally skilled with softer techniques. The few requests I had were responded to
immediately. During our post-massage discussion, we were able to pin-point
exactly how my motorcycle riding was impacting my body, which is something I'll definitely be looking out for from now on. I can't wait for my next visit and would highly encourage anyone looking for a fabulous experience to check out Sankofa.
